pro's and con's, what are they? i don't mean general wear and tear or fuel cost's

i'm looking to the future (mid 07) and E39 M5's are top of my "next car list" ive read a few comment's about buying extra warranty, what's the best/general way can i buy private and then buy a BMW warranty or do i have to buy from a dealer to get this benefit?

what problem's have folk had that has turned out to be a popular/common problem (if any)

any help will be greatfully received
