I have purchased a set of four wheels from ebay without tyres. They have been described as 'bottle top' style and 14".  Excitied with my new purchase I took them to my local tyre house who tried many different tyres then came to  the conclusion that they were metric 365 (i think).  I phoned around some major tyre dealers who have quoted me in the region of £120 per tyre before fitting. Im afraid I haven t got a budget like that.  Does anyone know where I can get cheaper tyres for these alloys or could anyone offer advise on purchasing a set of alloys that are both suitable for an e30 318i and the tyres alot cheaper?

Can you post a picture of them. Also they will have some part numbers on them on the outer face around the centre cap (between the wheel nuts, there should be some identification.

I have the exact wheels you think you have on my Tourer and the part number on the face of the wheel is 1125688 and they are clearly marked as 6jx14HZ.

Look on your wheels to see what is on them. If they are metrics.....forget it. The tyres are massively expensive and are fairly old technology. I would only stick with metrics if I was running a concours e24 or e28 which had them as standard fitment. Also Bottle top e30 rims are dirt cheap to pick up on eBay. Just make sure they are 6jx14's. Tyre size for these rims should be 195/60x14.

Post back and let me know what you find.

Cheers

Trevor

Yep, they're Metrics. The tyres that fit are 200/60 x 365TD.

If the guy told you they were 14" he lied. I hope you didn't pay much for them.

I'm surprised you can still get tyres for them.

14" "bottletops" are as cheap as chips. Try the E30Zone for people selling them.

As expected it's the 365x50TD bit thats important in this case. Also interesting is the 86 in a circle. This is the year they were manufactured. Slap bang in the Metric years for BMW's. Nearly all the mid 80's 5's Michelin TRX's, Ford also had a go with them on the Mk2 2.8i Granadas.

Honestly, This is gonna hurt but the best thing you can do with them is to throw the in the nearest skip. They are worth sweet F.A. I'm afraid.

Below are 3 sets currently on eBay, ALL 14" with 195 tyres so you know they are correct. Not that local to you I expect but worth watching to see what they go for.

Good luck

Ok thanks for your advice.  Whilst searching the net with this new information I came across this website for classic tyres.

http://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/trx.php

This maybe use to anyone else.

I will try to look out for some 14" alloys.

My last thought 'caveat emptor' buyer beware comes to mind.

Only of interest to wealthy enthusiasts who want them for a concours car.

In the real world you can get a proper set of wheels & quality tyres which can be replaced anywhere in the civilised world. Try getting a replacement TRX from Qwik Fit on short notice! You're screwed if a tyre gets damaged beyond repair.

Did I mention the grip's rubbish too?
