Insurance in the north is ridiculous, I paid literally half on a BMW 525e in Scotland of what my 65 year old father paid on a 1.6 Astra in Northern Ireland. Stupid money.

Very true, but the robbers didn't bother with the bizarre fivers, they just half-hinched loads of 20s, 50s and 100s. That's why the Northern has taken all the old notes out of circulation and introduced new ones. General public can take in old notes and have them changed over, but if a dodgy bloke walks in wanting to change 26 million quid.... |
I manage a shop in essex and the reason we dont accept any scottish money is because there is so much forged scottish money around
I personally couldnt tell a good one from a bad one so just dont take it atall!!!

Isn't that illegal? If you refuse to take a genuine Scottish note that is?I am not sure on this but as long as you state it in the shop you are ok! A bit like the check your change sign. There does seem to be a problem sometimes with English shops refusing to accept Scottish money. It is legal tender and it is Pounds Sterling after all! I have been to a post office/shop near Chester (i.e. not that far chuffin' South!!) when I handed over a Royal Bank of Scotland £10 the woman behind the shop counter part wanted to go off and check it at the post office counter to see if it was genuine! Cheek! So I just gave here an English note instead as I was in a hurry. When I have gone to England for work, I have gone to my bank and ask the counter staff especially for English notes and they just look at you funny but then nod in agreement when you tell them that you have had problems before south of the border. Last time when I went to Romford for work (That's Essex or very nearly init Jamie?)
What you trying to say we all talk like that!! I actually went to Glasgow Airport where there is a cash machine that only gives out English notes. I then had no problems. We don't bother to forge fiver's up here, it just isn't worth the hassle for only £5, £20 now that's more like it!
I'd have some off you but cant spend them down south!! Andrew
|

Isn't that because most of 'em were nicked a while back? |

It's most amusing to hand over a Northern bank fiver on the mainland. Everyone looks at it like it's moon dust.

Show me a shop in England, Scotland or Wales that will accept Northern Irish money. What I find strange is the fact that all the banks can produce their own version of sterling - was it not enought to have a standard version? |

The Royal Bank of Scotland printed tribute Jack Nicklaus Scottish five pound notes dated 14th July 2005. These are being collected as a limited number of these are actually in circulation. |

Is this a scottish thing ? Obviously Scottish fivers are a different design ( and there are many of them). Where I live shops refuse to accept them because there are so many. Our ones are widely available here in Essex.
