E30 wheel size?

   Think I've solved the mystery 
The coding plug that's fitted is listed as being for a 316/318, I'll pick up a 320 for him and give that a go. Makes sense that a 4 pot plug won't work in his 6 I guess.

	Hmmm the number on the coding plug doesn't match any on the lists I have. List says 1 377 364 for early models and 1 381 635 for later. The cars a 1990 E30 320i Cab. Label on back of cluster ..... Number on front .... Does anyone have any idea if this is right one to be in the car?

	Thanks guys, these are the wheels that were on the car when we bought it on Monday. They're Borbet BS. To me the speedo is way too far out for it to be just the wheels causing it I'm going to take the instrument cluster out and see what the coding plug says on it. Rev counter is going nuts too atm. 	Dergside's spot on with his tyre sizes The rolling radius of 205/55/15s is 606.5mm, the rolling radius of 195/65/14s is 609.1mm. When you moved up to 16"s you should have kept as closely to this over all rolling diameter as possible. With the 205/45/16s you have on the overall rolling radius you have is 590.9mm (2.5% less that what is should be with 15"s) which will result in the speedo reading higher than you are actually travelling. The correct tyre size for 16"s is 205/50/16 - this will have a total overall rolling radius of 611.4mm - only 0.43% higher than with the original 14"s. Still 10-15 mph higher than the GPS does sound a bit too far out.

	There should be a label on the door post that lists tyre pressures and std sizes. As best I can recall the 14" size was 195/65/14 and 15" was 205/55/15.

	Thanks for the reply mate, unfortunately Ono and Davy had already removed the engine and got rid of the car before we got there last night so we couldn't look at it. It's looking more like an instrument fault I think, doesn't seem right that 16" wheels should put the speedo so far out. I'll have a poke about after work tonight and check the coding plug on the cluster for a start just incase the clusters been changed at some point. Stuart.

	I think it was 14's or at most 15's that were on these as standard That one of ono's thats sitting at davies has the correct wheels for a 1990 e30.

	Does anyone know what the standard wheel/tyre size is on a 1990 E30 320i cab? Had the car out at Davy's tonight and he kindly gave it a look over but on the way there we noticed the speedo was reading about 10-15 mph higher than the speed on the GPS. The rev counter was also reading much higher than actual revs (although it reads fine at idle). Davy reckons only thing that would affect the speed reading was wheel/tyre size as the road speed is taken straight from the dif. Currently it's on 205x45x16's. Do you think this size is ok and mabye it's an instrument cluster fault? Any info will be greatly appreciated. Stuart.
