Whats wrong with SP2?
Just add Sygate personal firewall (unless you use windows firewall) and AVG free edition. Also got Spybot running. as well as AOL's own anti-spyware sweeper.

If you wait a while it will be bundled on the front of computer mags. In fact I'm suprissed that Microsfoft have't released it as a beta to download.

Barmy...

No wonder Linux is getting more popular - and is more secure. Only trouble is I can't run the programmes I want on it.

Also the advent of the new Intel Macs means microsoft can be installed on these as well. No wonder ol' Bill is a Billionaire.

I've got XP pro SP2.

On my old PC, I had XP pro SP1, but because I was on dial-up, I sent for the SP2 disc via Microsoft, it was free.

I downloaded MS office 2003 SP2 just last week, for free. (I went B/band by the way.)  MS Off SP2 on dial up was 7 hours 50 mins.  On BB it was 12 minutes.

yup, you're right bodger, just like they did with windows 95B oem edition. Still gonna try Fedora though for the internet, don't trust micro$oft too many patches, security issues and holes...

Windows XP Home is a muted version of XP Professional anyway

I had a copy of XP Pro installed on my pc, Microsoft wanted £98 to upgrade it to a propper version. Tried Windows Vista Beta (sent of for disc - came with 32 bit and 64 bit discs, cost a tenner) re-installed XP Home (Vista has issues) as my laptop came with this and still have the install disc. Put on SP2 and the new Defender beta download - so far no problems.

Resorted back to using windows 2k Pro for the last 8 months with no probs. Wasn't too keen on XP, but the better half likes it, so it's on her PC. I put Windows Defender beta, spybot S&D, Adaware and McAfee ISS all of which seem to do a good job of keeping out unwanted crap!

Am deffo gonna go the linux route, Windows Vista just doesn't appeal to me, usual trial and error scenario with Microsoft, been there, seen it, done it with 95B, 98, 98SE, ME (the worst), 2k and XP Pro. Spent alot of money back then updating etc..

Got most of the hardware drivers etc for fedora, just a couple to get and then I'll make the transition..firefox browser, a must!

Pity I can't use AOL on Linux - might have gone the dual boot route then (smal windows partition for a few programmes).

Oh well..
