Oil types

   Hello all, quick question I hope someone can help me with. I have a 1988 535iSE auto with 151K miles. At the last service my mechanic (non-BMW) changed the oil for something called HXL which is a rather alarming 20/60W and is apparently recommended for older cars with high miles on them. As I can't even find this stuff or another oil of the same weight at any of the retail car places (Halfords, Wilco etc) I'm wondering if this was a good idea? Any thoughts?
