Hi there

I own a E34 535i Sport Auto and am experiencing the same 'clunking' problem. Must be a common proble with our model!!

Well there are a lot of bushes to replace, so they may have been telling the truth.  I would recomend sourcing the parts from Motormec who are a BMW only parts specialists. They are the same price as German and Swedish or Euro car parts, but are generally selling original parts and or better quality parts. Ask to speak to Andy or Dave on 01502 500590. By the way nice car, always liked these. Good luck,

James

There are a lot of suspension bushes at the rear of these cars. I assume we are talking about an e34. When they go they can result in not only noisey, but very arsey cars. You need to get the car on a ramp and look underneath. By pushing and prodding on the different link bars and bushes you should be able to see which ones are worn and thus know which ones will need replacing. The clunking could also be down to a propshaft cupling which is a rubber donut between the gearbox and propshaft. Cheap to buy exspensive to fit. We had similar problems with a 530ise and ended up changing everything. Cost a fair amount, but transformed the handling of the car.

My 535i sport has developed a 'clunking' from the rear end when changing gear and on the motorway it has started rear wheel steering when lifting on-off throttle. Ive been told it could be the axle mount bush,is this true? If not which bush is causing the problem and how do i replace it ?
