On the 26th October 2003 there is a Indoor BMW show and parts sale organised by the driver club. As a member of both clubs i get to hear about everything (BMW Nurd you see) Anyway I went last year and it was really great, got to meet loads of other enthusiast as well as being able to speak to about 30 different specialist from around the country. If you buy either Total BMW or BMW Car magasine you get a £1 discount for entry. Last year there was a hurican on the day, but even so there were about 600 people who turned up.

Location Donington Park Exhibition Centre Nr Derby exit 23A or 24 off the M1 Starts 10:30 finishes at 4:30.

A couple of our guys went down to this last year and were very disappointed - reckoned some of the cars in the car park were much nicer than those on display and there was a lot of tat being peddled in the show proper.

What made the show for you?

I got some good contacts for servicing and repairing of my 635, and it got me back into the BMW frame of mind. I had spent 2 years where i could not use or drive my car, and going there made me realise how much i missed it.

I do agree that some of the cars in there were not up to much, I did not see one six that was in as good a condition as mine which is why i have offered mine as a show car.

I can't comment on the cars in the car park as it was raining so hard when i arived i had to sprint for cover.

I think the purpose of the show is more to gain contacts for bettering your vehicle. I was introduced there to Meguires which is good stuff and i have been converted ever since.

I went last year-weather was APPALLING and inside was too dark and too confined.

Was going this year but family holiday to Cornwall has scuppered it.

Anyone going to the Ace Cafe bash this month?

I came over from Eire especially for it last year and the year before. The first time I went was very good but I have to agree with Stone Island - it was dark and show cars were ok. However there was a great selection (even better than what was inside) of cars outside but the weather played havoc that day.

Dont know if i'll go this year though. Still haven't made my mind up yet!

Well I am for certain going now as my car is going to be one of the feature cars/exibits. Anyone who wasn't scared off last year  can come and talk to me and talk bm's all day long.

Donnington 2002.

Admission price: £8.50 on the door. Rip-off.

Food: greasy caff fare at extortionate prices. Rip-off.

Exhibits: spoiled by poor lighting, and determination of the subwoofer crowd to impose their particular brand of "muzak" on the proceedings. Better exhibits outside in the car park.

Weather: not much we could do about that! Car felt like it was going to be blown off the M1 on the way up.

Donnington 2003: not going this year. It clashes with my birthday on 26th October, and my horse wants some company, as does Adrian at Heckfield (unless he's going off to Donnington!)

Got lots of photos, although i was a bit subdued by the day due to my car breaking down two days before and not being able to get it ready in time. Never mind.

Where a good quota of Alpina's especialy e28's, and a good selection of 02's. Only 3 sixes and none where that great, and about 5 cs coupes including a batmobile and 2 csl's. The boy racer mobiles where there, but these were on the whole pretty grusome. There did not seem to be very many trade stands this time, and a lot of cars were jammed in. Were thousands of BM's in the car parks, but decided only to take photos from the show. If you send me an e-mail with an address I will send a CD with the images enclosed.

A little bird sent me a text about Donnington - overall, he thought it was crap, with all the better cars being parked outside in the car park.

So not that much has changed from last year, then!

Pity you missed the Six-Series cavalcade yesterday, running from New Inn, Heckfield to The Squirrel, Hurtmore. It was a sight for sore eyes!

Went to Donnington on Sunday.

I know that it has already been said elsewhere, but some of the machines in the car park are definitely better than some inside the hall.  Although there was a beautiful 840 coupe with a great paint job, nitrous and cracking ice installed.

Was paying in optional - as nobody seemed to be checking people as they went in?  Lucky enough to bump into a guy who gave me a VIP ticket but the missus had to pay to get in!

I picked up a few bits and bobs and saw some nice motors - although some of the exhibitors were selling gear for no cheaper than in their adverts which is a shame.  Lots of decently priced wheel and wheel/tyre combos though.  Just wish I had enough for those M3 spokes....

Saw a few custom efforts from 'shops' and a few individual machines.  One in particular with speakers taking up the whole of the back seat.  I kid you not when i say that the 'cones' were about three feet in diameter - sitting about six inches behind the front seats.  Don't ask me what they point of that is - apart from sonic warfare!

Overall though, glad I went as it was good to see a lot of enthusiasts there - especially for the older stuff.  Even the wife didn't get too bored!

Anybody else go?

I woundn't say that the show was crap. If you were an alpina fan there were plenty of cars to see. I would say though that it would of been better with a higher selection procedure. Old or interesting cars are fine, but there were about 5 cars including a e34 518 and 520 in standard form which you can see anywhere, a couple of E30 and E36 316's and 318's which are just not special. However there were some nice CSL's including a Batmobile, plenty of nice E28's including a Hartge converted one with 390,000 miles on the clock, and about 10 02's. And a good selection of M cars. The biggest dissapointment was that there were only three 6's in the entire show. All where silver or grey which in my opinion is the worst colour for the six, and condition wise they were not up to the standard of our cars.

As for the missed run from Heckfield i would of loved to of been there for that. How many sixes turned up.

However with my six still not running i would of let the side down turning up in my dads Porka.
