I've been having a (pointless) arguement with a bunch of folk about maintenance issues regarding "all BMW 2001/2 models". Now I'm fairly confident that it is all a bunch of crud, but I'd just like to know if anyone has heard any rumours about this or can positively refute these ridiculous claims;

They claim;

1)  that 2001/2 models (specifically) will be damaged if they run out of petrol, and that a low fuel light will have to be reset by BMW at a cost

2) they use special batteries that must be BMW brand which cost over £200 and will not work with any other make

3) BMW charge you to reset the stereo as they won't give you the code, so you have to take it in to the shop

4) that all 2001/2 models suffer from repeated problems and are constantly in for maintenance

Now, I KNOW this is all rubbish, but I need a good source for the real truth. Sorry to stain this fine forum with such banal tripe, but it really bugs me when people spout stuff like this.

AFAIK True. It's the same with many manufacturers...

That would be against euro rules, to withold the code, you OWN the radio, demand the code, or tell them to shove the radio, and get another type fitted, matching the remote controls/displays shouldnt be a problem
Best Wishes

I gave my agent the VIN number and they faxed BMW AG and received a reply by return and handed me the copy free of charge.  Change your agent. <SCRIPT language=javascript>postamble();
