V8 block query

   Hi,
I am currently looking for an e38 740 around 95-97. I have been told of many problems with the nicasil blocks and almost haphazard failures of relatively young car engines. Does anyone know how to spot potential offenders without a full stripdown?  From the age above I am looking at cars with 100K+ miles also some seem to have prolonged tappet chatter before the lifters pump up, afterwards they are silent however.  Also and finally what are the current known weaknesses (blasphemy!!) in the big seven?  I will buy a full BMSH car only and have accident HPI done but where do i pry into?

	Hi, If you get a car with full BMW service history it will show if the engine was replaced. My 1995 740i had a replacement at 77,000 miles & has now done 152,000 miles without a problem. It managed 157mph in Germany in august so was I lucky when I chose my car? I would like to think not, I spent nearly a year looking, mainly on the Auto trader website & visiting sellers before eventually buying. Good luck if your still looking, it is a wonderful car to own & run.
