Can't think of anything else, just make sure that its properly bled and that its filled with the correct concentration of anti-freeze. |

Dergside, the symptoms you describe in your 1st paragraph are what I am getting. It's due a service soon, so I think I will ask them to replace the Thermostat then. Is there anything else related that should be done along side it. My water-pump was replaced about a year ago but thats all.
Thanks for all the replies lads. Happy week-ending! |

KK I had the thermostat changed a few weeks ago on my sisters e46 328i touring. Symptoms were the temp gauge only reading to about 1/4 on tha gauge and taking ages for the heating to warm the car. They fail to a safe position to avoid damage due to overheating. The part cost was around 70 notes from the dealer. John Roche fitted it for me for 30 notes. Immediately the needle returned to its rightful place in the middle and the heating improved enormously. Coincidentally it gave up suddenly on Mrs D's 318Ci a couple of weeks later and was replaced by the dealer, cost was over 200 - parts and labour. |

What size of engine? If your stat is knackered you will notice your temp needle not behaving as it should. If it is a 6 pot e46, replacing the stat is easy provided you get the correct tools to remove the viscous fan. 4 bolts and two hose clips, Bob's your mothers brother. Andrew |
