Karcher are good.  I bought my dad one a few years back and it is still going strong.  Get an extension hose for it, it will be worth it to stop moving the unit and then power cable/extension lead about when you move around the car washing it!  They beat the crappy B&Qs own make that my fiancee bought me.  I could pee harder than that power washer!

I got a karche k7.85 off an ebay seller, reconditioned with 12mnth warrenty. Been great in the 12 mnths I've had it.

It is not just the pressure rating that is important (even the cheap ones have 120Bar), you should look for a high flow rating.

I've gto a K'archer 490 and have had it about 4 years, it's been very good - though the non return valve on the detergent doser has just gone so will see how easy it is to replace.........angry1

Just a point for all,

I found that with my 530lt/min jet washer, if you used a long hosepipe from your stand pipe, the extra drag in the hosepipe starved the washer of water. Mine would not run for more than 10secs until I used a small piece of hose direct from the stand pipe to the washer.

Your local water pressure will have an effect on this.

Do you need something that expensive?

what you using it for?

At the end of the day if its just cars then no power washer will replace washing car with bucket and wash mit and the £99 ones still have enough power for paths, slabs ect

Spot on sir.  I studied this at uni.  Believe it or not water pressure is very much affected by the smoothness of the inside walls of your garden hose and length of the hose.

You need to use a short length of hose from the tap to the washer.  I was using my dad Karcher at his house at the weekend and the water pressure from one of his outside taps is terrible and it was struggeling a bit until I shortened the length of hose from the tap to the Karcher.

Taking the Tim Allen approach the bigger the better.  Do I need a 2.5 litre engine?  I think not...  Think I might strap a V8 on it to belt the water out faster!
