I'm not quite sure I understand the tax band thingy? I run a 4 litre V8 which is niether a 4x4 nor an M powered car. If I was to turn down my emissions for the next MOT, can I not ensure being in the lower band?

a good idea, but it won't wash i'm afraid.... if it's new then check here:

http://www.vcacarfueldata.org.uk/ved-information.asp

if its old then check www.parkers.co.uk technical data section for c02 emissions on your chosen car and work it out here....

Mike

i reiterate, it does not affect cars that were registered before march 2001 and it's worked out by manufacturers book figures, not on a car by car basis

The cost of vehicle tax for pre-march 2001 cars, motorcycles, light goods vehicles and trade licences

Calculate the cost of your vehicle tax using the tax tables below. The rates of vehicle tax take effect for vehicle licences taken out from 22 March 2007.

Thanks Stephen, I thought I was missing something but I'm sure I am correct in assuming that my car, being registered in 1994, still falls in the old tax system, i.e. £180 a year?

In that case I can still   without  every time I have to shake the pennies from my  which means I will still look like

They don't make it easy do they!!

Parkers didn't have the CO2 readings, the space was blank for my car!

Looks like I'll be happy motoring in my car for many years to come.

Who said the government were all bad!

Mike

hmm..looks like the government want people to look after older cars, don't mind doing that..

And it only cost me £175 for the year march 31st 2007-2008[see initial thread post]

no, they don't... successive governments want to get old cars off the road (higher emissions, less safety, less taxable income, driven by the "poor people" who cant afford anything better, untaxed, uninsured, unmot'ed...... all the usual claptrap), which is what makes me suspicious to their continued leniency
