Cost of an Inspection 2 for an E46 M3

That's for the services as per the service sheet....... then you have the add on's, brake pads, disks, wiper blades anything else they may find, etc. that you either agree to have done or don't.......

Not nescessarily. I'd only get the standard service done by the dealers as per
the instructions. Plenty of ads in the BMW mags will quote Oil = £100,
Inspection 1 = £525, Inspection 2 = £650. I'd get the service done by the
dealer and service book stamped and for anything else that needs doing I'd
do it myself or go to a good indy. But he should factor in high maintanance
costs. A good few of the invoices that came with my M3 are for
£1500-2000. Mental insane ludicrus money for an e36 M3. These were 10
years ago too.

E46 M3 Inspection II services, on average, are around £900-950.

I do think this highlights something we've discussed before.  If you pay £20-25k for a second hand M3, you're still going to pay servicing and running costs of a £40-45k car.  Its often forgotten by many desperate to own such a car.

I might be wrong on this one, but I'm pretty sure BM3W carried a thread about 18 months to 2 years ago in which it became clear that about 30% of people buying second hand early E46 M3's were keeping them less than 6 months because whenever tyres, servicing etc came up...they couldn't afford to keep them.

Someone recently asked me what I thought about a 52 plate E46 M3 they were looking at.  It was a perfectly good car.  However, it never ceases to amaze me just how little research some people do....because he was lost for words when told how muich he'd need spend on a set of tyres, the approximate costs of servicing etc.

I wouldn't care but I deliberately played the costs down and mentioned independent specialists for cars out of warranty. 

Most buy them and know what they'll be faced with - but there is still a section of the pubic out there that don't think about the running costs until they're faced with the bills..

Well I just looked again and the big one included 5 tyres, pads and discs all
round. And the smaller ones are for about £400. But the thing with the e36
(and e30 I presume) is that you would
never take them to a dealer. The dealer probably wouldn't have a clue how
to fix them anyway. You maintain them yourself as much as possible and
bring them to a specialist indy to do the stuff you can't.

Thanks for the responses guys. I'm not thinking of getting one, me and my mates were just talking about the running costs of various cars.
