IMHO just another thing to go wrong. However, saying that, I'm impressed though (most of the time ) with the wipers on the E36 which go to intermittent when I stop. bound to break soon, computers always do - like it keeps warning me of a dip-beam failure - liar! |

Are they worth having or just another thing that could go wrong? The wipers on these cars are pretty clever anyway, the intermittent setting is adjustable and the full on goes faster when you do. Don’t get me wrong, I’m as lazy as the next man (autobox) but it sounds a bridge too far for me! |

Rain sensors is a sensor normally located behind your rear view mirror. You can see if you have them by looking from outside into the front, you'll see a triangle shape tinted glass where the mirror joins the windscreen (infared sensor can be seen from out side). Apparently when they work it senses the rain and automatically starts wiping... You can also adjust the sensitivity on the wiper stork, they have a vertical wheel, top being most sensative. If you have rain sensors you won't have intermittent wipers. Which can be really annoying. I hope that explains it... Aly Edited by thepits |

What are rain sensors?
When it rains I turn the wipers on. When it stops raining, I turn them off again.
Man over machine (or computer) - you know it makes sense |

Yeh must be a common problem. My mates E38 does the same. Mines have never worked since I bought the car... Although there must be some sort of fix out there..

Mine on my previous E39s and current 328ci are dodgy at best with a willful mind of their own.
