(ex) 1985 E30 316 (carb) 98k - body work fell to bits after flood damage caused it to rot, engine was perfect apart from clutch slave cylinder going pop one day.

(ex) 1988 E30 320i 130k - no idea what its like now - gave it away a few years ago (wings rusted through, one side of steering rack had play, rotor arm fried one day leaving me stranded.

(current) 1995 E36 318ti currently 74k was 46 1/2k  when I bought it about 2 years ago. had new set of boots all round - thats about it so far.

I was in a rented Transit van last week in letterkenny Donegal.

It was 1 year old with 280,000klm's on the clock. (175,000mls) thats nearly 500 miles per day.

Thats alot of going in 1 year. Seemed to drive ok too.

Mick

Cheers

Have just acquired a 1990 316i that's seen some abuse in its time. Changed cambelt and fitted a thermostat (there wasnt one!)

However has done 143k and not really very tappety (compared to how M40 engines can get) and still pulls well. A lot of fun to drive too - never realised how much more lairy these old E30s are compared to the E36.

Should run for a good few more miles yet. Seems less ambitious than more modern BMWs - focus is on solid construction and not as much on complex electronics, so not that much to go wrong I reckon.
Beating around the bush.

A few years ago, a BMW delivery lorry which we looked after had done over 1,000,000km delivering BMW parts up and down the country almost running 24 hours a day!

The driver looked after it so well, it only needed it's first clutch at 900,000km!

Ok - the oldest with least miles - my 25 year old 323i with 100k so an average of just 4k per year.

Sad but true Mike...

anyhoo I put around 250k in 4 years on my '72 beetle after I bought it and the speedo was showing 129k when I got it??

The M5 is heading towards 150k miles and is due her first set of rear shocks.

The Rover is at 92K and is still doing the shopping run with embarrassing ease.

The Landcruiser is pushing 190K and is still great fun in the mud - as experienced today.

I think someone fiddled with the mileage on the MGA as she's showing 46k which ain't bad for a '59!!!
