Is the UK megs one not just a porter cable rebranded. The one I have is. And the UK one more than likely will be the same. Its a portercable 7424. The instructions were by portercable but had a Meguiars logo printed on it. All in all your paying for the pleasure of not using a 110v transformer. Which tbh isnt that much of a pain if you have the long flex attachment for the 110v transformer. But I agree. I got mine for 180 shipped with pads, bag, meguiars speed glaze, clay, swirl remover and pads :D plus a megs bag to keep it in. |

I was just thinking that! If it was around £80 all-in then I would consider one but not at that price. At the end of the day you only really need it once to correct any faults then you can polish by hand. Better off paying one of the experts to do it. Safer too! |

£149!! It's just an angle grinder with an orbit cam on it! You are cheaper buying the Porter Cable one. By the time you have paid for the additional pads you would be up to the same price for the PC from the interweb that come with the transformers and all the kit. Besides you would still be able to use the transformer for other things! Think I'll get a PC, which at least has been proved to work. A PC is about $160 = £80 and you will get it shipped over for £20 and you can get a transformer for about £40. Still less than the Megs one. Andrew |

Got a flyer thru the door on Friday from Megs saying that they were going to show their machine off at some show at the beginning of November and that it would be in the shops by Crimbo. Bet Halfrauds wont stock it. Wonder how much it will be, the leaflet didn't say? Andrew |

Thanks Rob I get really fed up with manufacturers saying that they will release a product in say Spring 2007 and it's not until Dec 2007 or next year before they release the product. If I said to my clients that you can't have the reports or drawings for 6 months, I would get sacked off the job and not get paid. So how come manufacturers can do this? It's their loss as they have lost out on sales for polishing this summer and autumn, when I want to get a good polish on the car before the winter sets in. Rant over, feel better. Andrew |

Sorry to drag this thread up again... I have been looking into the Porter Cable Polishers and there appears to be a bit of a lack of them on ebay. There used to quite a few folk sellign them but now there are only a few and the prices appear to have gone up from about £120-130 to around £150. Is this in line with a new Megs polisher? Still can't find any sign of the Megs polisher on t'interweb, can anyone shed any light? Andrew |

hmm... looks like you'd better wait for the meguiars PC then
keeps the peace with the wife to be or order one from the states regardless.. The thing that puts me off the U.S. version is, fiddling about changing the plugs and the additional cost of a 110v AC transformer as you pointed out Andrew. I'm not sure how this affects warranty on the U.S. porter cable either if there is a problem.. The UK Meguiars version will be worth the wait IMO (in your case, more time to save for it too) |

Spot on there Sir, bit of a dilemma. Her indoors will say No, cos I'm getting married 3 weeks on Saturday. Additional expenditure is a little difficult at the mo unfortunately.

Allan So the Megs polish machine is just the same as the Porter cable one then? Does the Megs one run of 230V AC or is it still 110V AC via a transformer? Andrew |
