Just bought the Garmin 250 as above for the exact same reasons - just want directions, none of the other bits and bobs. Brilliant piece of kit and you can take it with you from car to car and also abroad for hire cars.

Check out www.mysatnav.ie - no relationship with them but thats where I bought mine and service so far was spot on.

Welcome to the forum, dermotn. As stated, retrofitting is almost certainly possible but likely to be very expensive.

BMW have some formal links with Garmin and their units can be bought through the BMW dealerships. I bought a Garmin 250; I didn't want the Bluetooth or MP3 capabilities of the larger models and the 250 comes with full European maps, preloaded (with some models like the 310, EU maps come on a DVD and you have to transfer to SD card into Garmin).

I would heartily recommend the Garmin 250 (I have installed it in the little "glovebox" to the left of steering-wheel, so that I don't have to bring it with me every time I park, just close the glove-box; out of sight).

Good luck

a tomtom one regional is about £140, and it's practically the same as the go 300.... (except the one is newer)

A portable satnav will be just as good for a fraction of the price. You can get a TomTom Go for as little as about 300 squids.

Have a look at the link below. It seems like there may be a BMW retro-fit kit for this.  I have no idea what the cost might be but on the e60,because you have i-drive and the lcd screen already in place, it mightn't be absolutely outrageous.

Take any info you find on the site below and confirm it with your dealer before you order, just in case there are any gotcha's.

Hi Dermot & welcome to the forum.
It is of cours possible to retrofit satnav but could be very costly trying to fit an OEM system.
Have you ruled out a garmin or tom tom system? I recall hearing that BMWs maps are quite old.

I have a 6 month old 520D here in Ireland. I didnt get Sat Nav when I bought the car, and now regret that. Is it possible to get installed at this stage?
