Good afternoon

I'm wondering if anyone can help with the above enquiry?

I'm looking for a good independant who is also very good with Motorsport maintenance for my E34 M5. Basically I'm looking for someone I can trust to give it a good overhaul including an Inspection 2, valve clearances (re-shimmed), throttle bodies balanced, tensioner replacement, leak down test etc etc so I really need someone who knows what they are doing.

I have done a search of this forum and several others for garages in the North East but none of these are really recent. Some garages I know have been open for ages and quite often the ones who have a great reputation, either the mechanic has left or he now oversees operations and it's now done by trainees etc. That's not what I'm really after.

There are some great guys over on the M5board and although I was on the point of arranging a visit to a guy in Colchester to make sure it was done right I felt I should really get someone up here. After all in another 10, 000 miles I can't do the same thing again and I'm going to have to trust a garage up here!

Can anyone please recommend someone? I live near Jarrow but it's no trouble travelling slightly to make sure it done correctly.

PS. Anyone know a good place for a KDS alignment?

Kind regards

Ebbers

Hi Trackpig,

Cheers for the reply, any reasons why you rate them?

I've had a look on the website and there isn't that much info about what services they provide. The info on the guys say they are ex-Fawdingtons but I know from a few searches that that garage gets mixed write-ups...

If you don't mind me asking is that where you take your M3?

Try HTTP://www.autohausdiagnostics.co.uk
They did a great job on my car when others failed to solve the problem.
The two guys involved were both top mechanics at the local BMW agents before setting up their own shop just north of York.

I have used Addington Motors loads of times, can't fault them, honest, reliable and has a very good reputation in the vdub scene, but specialises in all things german from porsche, VAG, old vdubs, BMW's etc

I've taken my e30 there a few times now and have known Colin (owner) for years.....he's a top bloke.

Hi mate

Think i spoke to you at the pub meet lastnight.

The garage i use, and have always used is J&S Autos.

They were recommended to me by lots and lots of seperate people.

All time served mechanics who defo know their stuff, got all the latest diagnostics computers and stuff, and recommended by the government in the 'Good garage scheme'

One of them has an E30 to die for, and one of the other mechanics knows a hell of a lot about BMWs and currently owns a few himself

thier site is www.jsautos.co.uk - just in washington.

Tell them youve spoke to me (wez)

Hope you get somewhere sorted.

Cheers for the info Chris, I have used Addington in the past for my Scirocco based on the fact Colin knows his stuff. The last couple of times though I was a little disappointed which has put me off using him again. Not sure if he still has as many trainees in there as he used to....

Morning Wez, 3:50am couldn't sleep?! lol

Yeah checked their site when I got in last night. Although they don't list any specialisation in BMWs I'll send them an email and see what they say.

As I said last night I just want to make sure it gets done properly. One of the gurus over on the M5 board states the valve clearances should be done every 12,000 miles but it seems this job isn't done very often. Mine hasn't been done in 60, 000 miles and it feels it the way it drives. Apparently some garages reckon it never needs doing??

Regardless I'm hoping a good tune up gets it flying again

Not sure how many trainees he has as fortunatly the car hasn't needed to be in there for a while

i had a quick look around your car last night (although it was too dark to have a proper look), it looks proper nice, is it the 3.8?

Yes it is a 3.8, 1995 was the last year of production with the upgraded disks, parallels etc

It's got upgraded silbergrau leather interior instead of the alcanterra but I'm not purist and will keep it that way!

Apologies if I didn't say hello last night, it's the first meet I've ever been to and I found it a bit difficult to know what was what..

Think I may have seen your motor on the way out though, parked on the right of the park when I came out of the doors? Very nice.

If you're in Jarrow you're not far from Jon Morgan at Prestige German. He's right next to the Barbour factory on the Bede estate.

He knows his way around an E34 M5 having just rebuilt the engine on his own 3.6.

He's an ex-BMW Master Technician & looks after my 635, E30 Cabriolet & E30 Touring.

Don't be shy at the meetings or you'll never get a word in!

As a matter of fact we do.

The BMW Club NE had a visit to Body Work Direct (www.bodyworkdirect.co.uk) who will give you 10% discount as a member. They're in Crook, Co. Durham.

Slightly nearer, there's a few in the Newcastle area. Try www.alignmycar.co.uk for details.

Hmmm....

I know the place you're talking about and it was my intention to take it there but a recent conversaton with Mick has put me off. I've thought about it a lot and maybe I should just see for myself. Especially since he's about 5 minutes from my door. It would be ideal, I just hope he works on it.

Used to live in Crook so I know the area.

Possible good opportunity for a pish up

Cheers Andy.
