Hi All

Thought I would share a few pics and details of my new car that I bought on Thursday...

740I_1.jpg

740I_2.jpg

740I_3.jpg

She is a 1998 E38 740I with the M62 motor and black leather interior. She comes with all the toys except PDC which I am ok with. She has a very nice Steptronic box which I cannot wait to play with on the highway ...

She has just under 100000miles on her and best of all, I picked her up for 3400 pounds!

She has a few problems as you can see from my posts in the General Technical Section, but hopefully I got a good deal here ...

Thanks

BB

EDIT: Sorry moderators...meant this to be in the "General Off Topic Forum. Can you move it? Thanks

Hmmmm nice.

All I can think of when I see an E38 at the moment is the film The Transporter.

Has it got a towbar?  Looks like it has a section of removeable rear bumper.  Any pics inside?  I haven't seen inside a 7 series.

Atleast I've got another person I can ask about V8s!  I am asuming that it is a 4398cc V8 same as the E39 540's and my 545?

Good luck with it and I hope you fix your cooling problems.

Andrew

Hi Andrew

Thanks ...

I have been after one of these cars for a LONG time, and watching the Transporter made me want the car even more!!!

It does have the 4.4L V8, but I think it is a much older version than yours...although it does share it with the later E39 540I.

I am learning about the V8's aswell, so we can share the knowledge ...

I too hope that the cooling problem is just an air pocket problem caused by a leak...but I keep hearing HeadGasket in the back of my head ...

But damn..when I have been able to drive this car...damn does it go!!!!!!

It does its 0-60 in the quoted 6.6 seconds... I played with a 2.0T A3 on Sunday and handed its butt to it ...

My parents want me to go for a BMW Advanced Driving course, as they say it is a lot of power for someone my age to handle...and I need to know what I am doing...although I think it will be a cold day in hell when the DSC gives up and leaves all the problem sorting out to me...

Will take some pics of the inside for you...

BB

Thanks Sporty1

I know love is in the eye of the beholder and many people would think this car looks like a bus, but for me...this is still one of the prettiest BMWs ever made ...

I really wanted the 98 year, as it came with the facelifted stuff and all the nice electronic toys aswell as DSC, Steptronic, 8 airbags and crystal lights, but not the horrible scalloped headlights that the 99 model came with!

The radiator, from BMW costs about 310 pounds!!! I can get one also from a company called Silverton at about 151 pounds. So I think I will replace it, but not with a original BMW one...

Thanks

She'll look good with a nice set of M-Parallels and lowering springs. There are plenty of opportunities to spend your spare cash to make the E38 a really sharper looking vehicle- she is definitely a good starting point though  !!

Enjoy,

JP

Looks like a nice car.

I'm sure the problems will be sorted with the minimum of fuss.
