Hi, my friend has an E36 cabriolet and he needs to know how to get the drivers side door off. He doesn't have a Haynes manual like myself and the pin in the hinge doesn't appear to be the same as on my E34.

Do we persuade the pin out with a hammer?

1st Disconnect the battery if it has side impact air-bags

2nd Unbolt main harness connector, from A pillar, seperate harness.

3rd With the door fully open, remove hinge pin bolts with suitably sized socket, 10mm???

4th Drift out the clevis pin on the on the door check strap. You may need to remove a circlip on some models.

5th Remove the door by lifting it up off the lower hinge half, bit like a rising butt door hinge in your house.

6th On the cabriolet refitting the door may upset the adjustment and alingment of the window, this may need to be adjusted, I don't know how to do that bit!!

7th If the battery has been disconnected you need to re-teach the the window mechanical stop reference point. Close the door and turn on the ignition, fully open the front window and then fully close it again.

8th Press and hold the window button in the up position for at least 5 seconds after the window is closed.

9th The windows should now be re-initialised and the anti-pinch and one touch up/down feature should now work again.

If in doubt, it may be a job for a competent bodyshop or service guy,

Best of luck
