I found them doing a websearch and they are nothing like what I was thinking.  They are available for online ordering, but I haven't decided yet if I will try them.  I am in the NW, Lancs.

they have good points and bad points the same as everything

Good points are they will raise the car up when empty , stop it from sagging as much when loaded and of course they are cheap !

Bad points are  they arent permanent,  they will stiffen the ride when loaded up because it will shorten the amount of movement available in the spring ( not terrible tho )

if you were closer to me i would have let you try one of my sets . but theres a couple of hundred miles between us .

Thanks for the offer, they aren't too expensive so I don't mind buying them even if I wind up not liking them.  I like that they aren't permanent that way I can remove if I ever sell.  It will probably take another drive with a full passenger load in the car to make me take the plunge and buy them.

good luck with whatever you do .  at the end of the day nothing really matters with these cars as long as` they keep running ,   even with saggy suspension itl still be a pleasure to drive ,  ( unlike my missus , i hope she never sees that)

you can find the spring assistors at demon-tweeks.co.uk

Miles, do the Boge springs leave your 525i higher or lower than the M5? My 535i currently sits about 25mm lower than the M5 in your pic(!) and I'm quite keen to lift it up a bit - just moved to a house with an unsurfaced drive and I can't get it up there!

I guess I want a full Sachs/Boge kit, but can't find one - can anyone help?

Here is a side view of the 525 with the Sachs/Boge Springs fitted. I think it is about the same as the M5.

Thanks for that. Looks a bit arse-heavy to me, but then they always do! Anyway, that's certainly quite a bit higher than mine - those are 18" rims, yes?

Is your rolling radius the same as mine? I've got 235/45/17s on, and looking at the pic you've got more clearance from front tyre to arch (you can't even get a finger in the gap on my car), yet when I calculate the clearance from your pic you seem to have less from hub to arch. Maybe I got my sums wrong...

Looks a very tidy car btw. My 535i's spent too much time at the seaside - got one or two nibbles round the edges.

Oh, and I checked and the heated mirrors are standard, or at least not mentioned as an option.

I am using 235 40 18 Tyres which give an overall diameter of 645mm, a 235 45 17 Tyre gives an overall diameter of 643mm so i think we can say the rolling radius is practically the same.

I think my car has been very well looked after by its 2 previous owners it has full BMWSH and i have the original invoice for £30,500 !

I'll have to check to see why the heated mirrors don't work i guess i need some new mirror glass.

Thanks

Miles

Is your car lower than this M5 that i looked at ? It has the Hartge Suspension Kit fitted. The ride was VERY firm.

Looks about the same I'd say. I must admit the handling has been impressive, especially on the limit, the low centre of gravity really disguises the mass. However, three inches of ground clearance really isn't fun, and the springs and especially shocks are now totally buggered anyway.

So, I've ordered the Sachs/Boge springs and dampers from GSF. Given that the nsf shock is now bone dry and the wheel thumps up and down demonically over every bump, I think I'll be happy with them!

Another thing - the back end of your 525 looks about the same as the Hartge M5's (and mine). The M5 looks better than the standard bum-down stance, IMO.

The front end doesn't look that bad, does it ?

Miles,

I think it looks spot on. Those wheels look great. You need a bit more clearance on the front of a car than the back anyway. Looking at the photos if the front was as low as the back you wouldn't be able to turn the wheels.

Entering an age of Austerity and now driving a Focus Diesel.

Scuse my brusqueness Miles - it does indeed look the absolute ollies, esp with those wheels. It's just taken me a while to come to terms with that particular BMW design 'feature'.

Btw, are those pzeros?

I managed to get 5 brand new for the normal retail price of 1. They were an excellent find on ebay

Miles

I have an E34 525i the same colour as yours, but mines an early one, 1988.

Whilst I was helping my mate rub it down to respray it we found that the bumpers and sills were body coloured (the bottom bits of the bumpers), and then painted black, must just be how bm do it.

So I have left them silver, sills stone chipped finish of course, but still silver.

I notice on your car the rubber trim along the bottom of the doors, and the matching bits on the front wing and rear wheel arch are also silver, mine of course are black...I think your looks better as mine now has two black lines.

Did you buy these ? or as its a sport is that how it comes ?

Best Wishes

Nigel
