Hi Guys, can`t see what all the fuss is about..most Dealers give us a discount..you just need to speak to the right person, maybe the parts Manager is you best starting point.
We have a parts person in the club based at Haliwell Jones in Southport details in the club mag.
Also I have had discount form Benhams in Stockport / Blue Bell Wilmslow / Prestons in Colne / Williams in Manchester...

You will always find one that won`t help, so do as I do go to next local Dealer who want`s your hard earned cash.

Kev.

The fuss is that it's a fairly prominently promoted 'club benefit' and it appeared for a while as if most dealers were not supporting it. Additionally, many dealers denied all knowledge of the BMWCC.

Accordingly, we're trying to record dealers offering discounts using this thread to help members identify which dealers are supporting the scheme and allow the to - as you suggest - go on to the next dealer.

Well if your getting a list together of Dealers that are keen to help members and give discount, you should let the the Club Office know and we can get it listed in the club mag.

It seems a little odd to me - since the club actively advertises the Dealer Discount as a club benefit - that such a list does not already exist...

Duncans got a good point. Some dealers are more equal than others. We in some areas who get a discount, thanks to a supportive dealer,  assume all dealers do the same. Its not ours by Right, but the clubs Dealer Reps have acheived this for the rest of us, in many cases. We need a little PR, to promote the club in some areas, from both sides.

Sorry Duncan

It was just the way he said YOU SHOULD in his posting to you that led to me writing that, then having the nerve to put his position down in capitals.

I tend to agree with you, if they advertise it as a benefit they should have done this ages ago, but as they didnt think of it and you did then you should be congatulated, not written to in that "mode" on here.
Best Wishes

Nigel

I have developed a beta version of a contacts listing (the long awaited) whereby contacts who offer club discounts can advertise freely. It will be available within the next week (baby due any day and work have taken to making me teach for 13 hours a day ).

I will let you know when I get it online for you all to pull apart testing it!

Yes actually. Albeit briefly on the morning of Gaydon.

I also help Killian and Howard out where I can with web stuff and I'm Secretary to the Scottish part of the club.

National activities for the BMW Car Club of Great Britain all seem to take place too far away from me for me to be of any material help.

OK Folks, back on topic!

The beta version of the contacts page is available @ www.bmwcarclubgb.co.uk/contacts.

The front end is basic - I have been concentrating on the backend till now.
There are a few issues with it which need ironing out:-
* using double quotes and other characters, etc.,
* the legal end of things (any solicitors out there?)
* I want to add a voting system onto it (maybe use forum usernames)
* it needs an administrator area so we can edit & delete your comments
* search system is not fully finished (currently searches for a phrase - it needs to break the words apart for an 'any word' search.

But please try it & let me know what you think. The more comments received the better it should be.

The example contacts list is only a test version and any data will be deleted before the list proper goes live [obviously]. It needs the final nod from the club before anything so for the moment it is just a toy to keep you entertained while you are at work and itching to get back into your BMW!

K,

Thoughts are as follows :

- eMail field needs to be voluntary
- discount field is too restrictive. Needs to be able to cope with 7.5% or variable or free chamois with every valet, etc... Free text field?
- category field is too restrictive. Dealers for example fall under all of the current categories beginning with 'BMW'. Perhaps Checkboxes would be more appropriate here?
- Contacts home does not reflect the true number of entries in the subsections (perhaps it's reflecting 'approved' entries?)
- When displaying a list of entries, the description field shows the last 'XX' characters. This looks wierd. How about either a full entry or the first 'XX' characters.
- Don't know if you've not enable it yet, but I didn't get an eMail when submitting test entries.

Concept looks sound tho - particularly the 'leave a comment' facility. Any joy on perhaps using forum user names rather than eMail? Some users still prefer to protect their eMail addresses...

Looking forward to it going live.

Cheers,

Duncan

Further to my previous ramblings, I got an eMail in to confirm my comment. Clicking on the link seems to work as expected although the date is somewhat out
