Umm... I don't really know where to stand on this really. As a motorist who rarely breaks the speed limit I'd imagine this would be a good thing. However there is a caveat, I bet that it is the likes of myself that will get stung for the one time in the month or whenever I am doing say 110km/h in a 100km zone.

I am also of the belief that there should be a minimum speed limit and this should be enforced just the same as the max limit. I spent at least 10miles today plodding along firstly behind two Nissan Micras (with the Mandatory L plate) two tractors and an articulated lorry at around 50Km/h  in a 100Km/h Zone and it was very frustrating I couldn't pass due to this long cue and visibilty was poor.

I do take glee in the fact that at least it is run by a private firm which should mean at least some efficiency and possible accountability. Some people have racked up several points before even finding out under the current system run by the Civil Service where lazy, over paid individuals who wouldn't even be in there only they have some connection with FF.

One Step forward yet two steps back.

Sod that, now just seems to be more of a time to go out and buy the most expensive speed camera detector/jammer money can buy. Ive no problem with the theory behind the cameras once they were placed outside schools/at blackspots etc but i would bet my right arm that 90% will end up on motorways/dual carriageways or the usual hiding places for guards as is, i.e. wide open 60kph stretches of dualler. Makes my blood boil when i think of how the average motorist is raped here. At least im young enough to emigrate! Thats always a positive!!

I loved the way that they just sat there and watched it burn, and all the other road users just driving past

My fear is that profitabilty will be the key for a private company. I'd guess that we are going to see cameras at speed limit transitions (e.g. coming into villages), at bends, county roads, bottom of hills and all the sneaky places where you could be easily 5kph above the limit but driving safe.

I do not expect this initiative to work in cutting down serious accidents, just like penalty points do not work. The idiots out there who drive like luantics, while drunk/drugged, overtake dangerously, cut up traffic, on the phone, not concentrating, etc., will not change their behaviour - instead it is the majority of punters generally intending driving within the law that will be caught out for realtive misdemeanors. We still cannot learn from others (e.g. the UK and Germany) that having such a simplistic measure on driving standards simply doesn't work.
