Thats very useful information guys...  I dont really mind what colour the car or age or even mileage, so long as this vanos unit isnt gonna blow & its got a full main dealer service history.  Scotthalls in Southampton have quoted me £300.00 for the parts & 20 hours labour @ £75.00 if it goes wrong - and id rather a main dealer did something as important as that... somehow, knowing a tin pot side garage did the work would not give me peace of mind!  Will keep looking but a 3L over an evo I think is gonna be my best bet..  Does anyone know whats wrong with the Munich legends web site or is it my computer!?

Iain.

Just a thought but have you tried checking the AUC section on the BMW website and doing a full dealer search. I know one of my local dealers sold a 95 3L M3 for approx £12,500 and that was on there.

A mate has just informed me that he has had an 3L and an EVO and says they are quite different although they look the same.

He said the EVO is a quicker car hence the extra BHP, tighter on handling and better braking, but this could be all at a cost, its the risk you take. But then he had more problems with his 3L then his EVO. All depends on where and who has owned the car. Probably because it happened to be an early 3L? I don't know.

I think how your car runs and handles is down to the car and the driver and the history-there are reports eveywhere saying the 3L is a better car or the Evos a better car or the E30 is the better option but its going to boil down to what you want-I test drove both and couldn't see a difference but hey thats my opinion based on test drives.I've been told by dealers that the Evo has a kudos that the 3L hasn't, another dealer reckoned the 3L had a stronger engine and gearbox than the Evo.

They are both great cars, find the one you like the look of and like the drive of. In the instances of marginal less-than-a-second difference between the two, driver ability will play a part. Bear in mind that autocar tests got the 0-60 quicker on the 3L.

Also worth noting will be the increased insurance and servicing costs of the evo.

Individual preference based on the money you've got to spend. It may take ages but GET THE CAR YOU ARE 100% HAPPY WITH.If you want a test in a 3L and are around MK I'll be happy to take you for a blast. Just my opinion-am more than happy to have a race with an evo though LOL!!!

Here here

I had a long chat with the guys at munich legands and they said the same thing. The 3.0lt all round is built stronger. With the evo they used lighter parts there for not as strong. The gear box's on 3.0lts are stronger too.

Stone-Island hows the m3 gt search going?

Have a look at this month TOPGEAR Magazine it has a small report on all the different M-POWER cars that BM have done. They have all the E36 models from 3L, Convertible and EVO.

You need to get it hosted at a website then link across to it. You can email it to me and I'll set it up if you want.
