Hi guys, Am new to this forum to hello to everyone. I have been on other BMW forums (mainly U.K) and it was great to see an Irish one here. I've longed for an 840 for so many years now and finally took the plunge a few weeks ago. Brought one over from the U.K. which is defo the way to go but am delighted with the purchase. Here's a link to some pictures (these are pictures the seller took and still shows the U.K. reg but I've since registered etc but haven't taken any photo's myself.....as yet!!!). http://picasaweb.google.com/shabbyalonso/MyNew840ciSport1997
It's a 1997 reg but I have to admit, it's in top notch condition; like new. It must be said that U.K owners really know how to look at their cars! Anyway, just thought I'd share my joy with all of you BMW owners and if any other 8 series on here, a special hello! Cheers guys, Keenan |

Never mind the reg plate man - they are a beautiful machine and a rare sight on Irish roads. They are a serious head turner in this day and age when you wouldn't even bother to look sideways at a new 50k BMW anymore...... You should look into an Eisenmann exhaust if you want the V8 soundtrack to go with the looks.... |

Welcome to the forum Keenan, Your car is a stunner, the 8 series has huge road presence. I really like the throwing star alloys. I would have an 840ci over a 645ci any day. Best of luck with her. Regards, Bayerische |

Nice They are indeedely rare beasts. There is a nice light blue one kicking about Glasgow and a dark blue one that resembles a shed unfortunately. Does that have 4 wheel steering? Did some of the 8's have this or am I barking up the wrong tree. Andrew |

Hi guys, Thanks a mill for the positive feedback - I can only agree with the sentiments as I still can't get over the fact that I own one! Mileage is 104k miles - which I guess is about average or slightly less for a '97 reg car. It runs sooo smoothly, has a beautiful roar from the V8 engine (which is monstorous by the way!) and overall, could easily be a 2007 car, never mind a 1997 car! Andrew Rolland - yes, it's a 4 steering wheel. To be honest, I would be lying if I said I knew if this was always the standard for the 8 however there are alot with a 3 spoke steering wheel (which I don't like as much, in this model). There are a few aftermarket ones too but the original is always best! The alloys also, came with the ci sport edition - the standard were the multi-spoke alloys which are nice but I think they make it look slightly dated so the throwing star alloys give it a nice(r) sport look! It has all the bells and whistles that you could have had as options on this car so thanks to he or she (probably he, or is that sexist!) that splashed out big time back in 1997 when ordering it!!!! I'm certainly savouring every moment Thanks again though guys, all feedback is very much appreciated. Thanks for the warm welcome also guys! Edited by keenan |

Welcome along Keenan. Congrats on the new car. Looks like a beauty.
I think Andrew was refering to four wheel steering, as in the back wheels steer the opposite way to the fronts a little. Not sure about it myself. However I'd reccomend an Mtec 3 spoke steering wheel if it'll fit your car. Those four spoke ones are huge. The 3 spoke is sllightly smaller and will improve the feel of the steering. I changed to one in my M3 and it made a big difference. Not 100% sure if they're a straight swap but I'd assume they are. They can be had for about 120-150 pounds in the UK on ebay. original-fit-e36-z3_W0QQitemZ270247487190QQcmdZViewItem? hash=item270247487190&_trkparms=39%3A1%7C65% 3A3&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14">HERE Edited by flyingalexf68 |

Ahhhh, it makes sense now! Thanks for that flying alexf68. Yes, the 4 spoke steering wheel is quite big but I do like it i must admit; it's a bit kitch and knightrider-ish (all I need to do is chop off the top and bottom circularar bits!) however thanks for the link nonetheless - might be an option down the road

Hey Keenan! I'm drooling! Would love one of these cars. I remember when they were launched, they were quite exotic. Great that you can get one now for such reasonable money. I'm guessing the operating costs are pretty steep though! Gorgeous machine and best of luck with it.
