Just ordered this from eBay along with cable, cause none of the BMW dealer in Ireland knows how to use GT1 computer and actually reprogram my car to enable daytime headlights, disable my "always on" indicators etc.

The soft has apparently some great feedback and allows to enable/disable lots of OEM settings.

Anyone has it and if so, what is your feedback?

Is your car from abroad e.g. the US? Your indicators shouldn't be on full time otherwise.

Interesting keep us posted

I have no problems with my gt1 the issue might be that different versions of the software are needed for different tasks bmw's service releases are as confusing as Microsofts patches where in the old days and for sure non of the bmw dealers installed a version for US cars and most likely they are to lazy to check it out. So if the scanner fails give me a bus

Alternative autologic should be able to sort this as well

Alright ok

I mean seriously dealership here checked my wires to try to disable the "always on" indicators and made me paid 35 quids for nothing.
This thing is coded, it is not a wire issue, so yeah I was pissed, especially because I walked in and asked them if they could reprog it.
I also asked them to enable daytime lights (Small beams) cause mines are disabled too, they were clueless ...

I was a bit frustrated lol

Anyway, which company do you work for?

Myself  However I do the diagnostic for Robert Furley BMW specialist whom's details are on this site (he is out in Kells) and some garages in the dub/wicklow area.

Originaly came from an IT backround and started doing diagnostics when a.) I couldn't get a proper diagnostics in Ireland and b.) realised that alot of people just read what the machine say and change parts without thinking what might cause this. (verry similiar to the old days of IT support). Helped quiet a bit to finance my time as a mature student.

Used Carsoft inicially for a while and found it ok for diagnostics however was always scared to "flash" an ecu on it seeing that the software was a cracked version. The full ersion retailes at about 2000 Sterling  and still has issues with certain cars. As some garages bought autologic by then I decided to give gt1 a try as the price is better and updates are available for peanuts where autologic subscription is quiet expensive.

From a professional point of view there is still alot to be improved but the problem is that bmw doesn't want anyone outside the dealer network to be able to do this so they keep changing bits all the time (hence the analogy to old Microsoft days). The new 7's started of with fiberchannel so a new box is needed to comunicate with theese cars and aparently they have about 2gigabyte of code!!! Boxes for this are already poping up and I cant wait to get the first car for a check to see this for myself

Interresting ok.
I have been told the 7 series iDrive and interface are actually powered up by Microsoft Windows, so that might explain why the code is worth 2GB :-)

Daytime Running Lights etc. are a Car/Key Memory option.

GT1 or Autologic can do this without any problems - regardless of software version of GT1 (as long as it's newer than the car).

Try another dealer or a proper specialist.

Eddie.

Carsoft cannot flash ECUs really. It can transfer some ZCS coding however and do limited Car/Key memory options.

The fibre optic is referred to as MOST (for Media Orientated System Transport) and you need an optical head to use that interface to communicate with the car. The tool used by BMW is SSS (Software Service Station - Windows based) in conjunction with OPPS head (not the Yellow Head used for GT1). However, you can still flash program most control units (CIP) serially, up to and including 08 models. From approx. March 2007 BMW introduced a CAN protocol for diagnostics and only EOBD/OBDII functions are available using the older type interface.

Eddie.

Ok just got the kit today

Basically this tool reads hexadecimal values stored in the different BMW modules. and the output is hexadecimal, including errors generated by sensors.
So really this is 100% useless

It works the same qway the other way around. If you want to change OEM settings. You got to know the HEX value.

This thing is not documented, I can't find any document or online source.
BMW diag codes are available online and even with TIS I believe, so you can get some infos, but nontheless almost useless.

This is version 1.36. The new version, 1.4 seems to have a GUI with tick box that can do the job for you directly without using HEX codes.

So the question now is the following.

I would like to disable and enable some of the OEM settings of my car.

Since it is US specs, I would like to enable daytime running lights and disable "always on" indicators.

Does GT1 give the options to do that?

Something like this:

And plus I want to enable autolock, something like this

Thanks guys
If you can do this for me, you got yourself a new customer :-)

As I posted earlier:
"GT1 or Autologic can do this without any problems - regardless of software version of GT1 (as long as it's newer than the car)."

Any dealer can change the CKM (Car/Key Memory) Options.
The options you list - that's what they are.

here is a list of the error codes in 8 bit binary http://www.x5world.com/articles/x5/general-information/9544- bmw-fault-codes-their-meaning.html

maybe its a simple matter of converting your hex values to 8 bit binary.

Yeah I got them already thanks.
My problem is not really to scan for faults, but to change OEM settings.
This application allows you to do a dump of the module's memory, then save it as a BIN, change HEX values at particular positions.
but since I can't find any documentation for this, I am not gonna mess up with my car HEX values lol.

So the solution for me is to get somebody with a GT1 since the dealership is clueless :-)
Last time I went to Maxwell, I had to teach their guy how to use ETK, and this guy had been around in parts for a few months...I still don't get it lol
