Police warning after BMW thieves hook the keys

12:20am Sunday 24th August 2008

THIEVES hooked a set of keys from a workshop and used them to steal a BMW car.

The BMW 318, worth Ł1,200, was stolen from outside Quick Fit, in Rectory Grove, Leigh, The silver H-reg car, had been left there to have some work carried out.

Police spokesman Julia Pack said: “We would like to remind drivers not to drop car keys through letter boxes. It may be convenient, but thieves know about this too.

“You should make other arrangements with the garage.”

We had a guy allegedly do that at our place.

He came in one Wednesday morning asking if his van was ready. He got the reply "what van?"

He said he dropped the keys through our letterbox (which has a metal box behind) on the Sunday sowe could work on it the next day (it was booked into have work done but we just assumed he was a no show)

When he reported it, he also 'claimed' he had a custom built motor bike engine in the back worth 4k!

Not saying this is what you did Andrew!! but it goes to show, some people have some balls. Not sure how his insurance claim panned out but we toldhim to take a run and jump if he tried to pin the responsibility on us!

Hmmm, yes I often find I leave expensive items in my car when I take it in to a garage. In fact I frequently leave them in the back of my car overnight because cars are well known 'secure places' to leave high value items.

Liar or idiot. I suspect the former but you never know...

Hmm.

I hope he gets it sorted.

Mine still isn't. 7 months later!
