Hi, I have a strange problem with my central locking.

Having replaced the fuse the central locking seems to be fine for a while until after a 20 - 30 mile run. After this the fuse has mysteriously blown. Having not operated the locks throughout the journey the fuse has blown both with doors unlocked and locked. Does anyone have any Ideas where to start please?

I'm still waiting for my lock set to arrive.

Thanks in anticipation.

Tony

Thanks John.

I have some fantastic photos of the Wicklow Mountains with the sun setting behind taken from over here in Wales. Are you anywhere near? Your Avatar reminded me.

Which fuse is it blowing? Fuse #35, 25A or fuse #43  the 5A, or fuse #7, 5A ?

If it's fuse #43 the horn also runs off this.

If it's fuse #7 then this also runs the DSC(if fitted) and the instrument cluster.

Posting the exact model of car and age may help.

Hi Sporty, I do like your Avatar!!

Thanks for your reply, I can confirm it is fuse #7 15 amp that is blowing. The car is a blue 316i ES E36  4 door saloon on a P plate. What's a DSC BTW?

Just to confirm Replaced fuse last night locked doors this am drove 30 odd miles to work and it was ok, same trip back and the fuse had blown, headlights used both ways.

Thanks again.

Sorry, I should have read all the post, as you said exactly what car it is.

DSC is dynamic stability control, your car does not have that (IIRC).

Fuse 7, 5Amp cover the Central locking, interior lights (inc. glove box) and body control electronics module.

I would start with the easy bits, remove the bulbs from all your interior light inc the glove box light and see it the fuse stays intack, if it does then the problem is on that circuit. Then replace the bulbs on at a time and see which one causes the fuse to blow, might be worth getting new bulbs in case one of them carries the fault.

Thanks Sporty, that's a good place to start.

I'll let you know how I get on.
