Right another update.  After the fiasco of figuring out if I had the right crank main bearing shells, of which It turned out I did, I thought I"d better start building it back up. Since I had all of the right parts for the engine, at about 780 odd quids worth and thats with discount from the stealers, and a lot of parts from Toby at New Car Parts Ltd( or Parts Auction) who was great, with quick delivery and greats service as usual. The rest of the parts I got from Euro car parts.

First off, get the crank in with those new shells

The new shells in the caps...

Next up, pistons, all cleaned up and with new rings, shells and bolts....

Pistons in and caps all torqued up, strange things them stretch bolts, just don't feel nice!!

then the front and rear oil seal casings, and front crank pully and bolt....

then the Oil pump and thingy next to it....

then time for the sump...

And last for tonight, the water pump and tensiorer. I decided to usse my old water pump as it had not long been put on the car and still feels very smoth

So there we have it, next up is to finish off cleaning up the head and face of the block and get the head on. Just got to finish laquring the inlet manifold and we're done

Good lot of oily technical photos there!

I was wondering about the mating surface of the block/head but you said you were cleaning that up.

Keep the oily piccies coming.

Good progress Paul!

Did you use the 2.8 crank in the end?

Nah I didn't bother, couldn't find one anyway. I think I"ll keep the Tech1 as the 2.5 and get another for tuning and having a laugh with.

Just a wee update...

Finished my rocker cover and inlet manifold.....

Came out nicely

Also realised that the valves weren't seated right, so I've got them out and re-lapping them....

Inlets are done, just the exhausts to go, so thats where I'm off to just now, should be finished and back together tonight.

Also got this from Spadge from the e30zone.....

Had a wee go with some wire wool and some metal polish and it should come up nicely...

Excellent job, I'm really envious of you getting to re-build the engine like that.

I like the photos with bottles of Irn-Bru in them, you can tell it's a Jock at work then, to quote my old boss.
