I just started watching the beginning of the above titled movie; there is a car chase through Nice in the beginning that's truly preposterous using an E38 as a get-away car.

Unintentionally funny, some of the continuity is laughable; in one scene the wing-mirror is missing, in the next it's miraculously reappeared. Half the time the car has rear headrest the other half they're missing. The main character changes an aftermarket wheel, following a puncture, with an original BMW wheel from the boot; in the next clip the car has its four aftermarket wheels back!

Don't think I can bear to watch this movie!

Edit: Oh yes, and pressing the keyhole on the back of an E38 does not open the boot!!! Edit edit: Actually maybe it does; I am trying to remember. Does it have the microswitch under the handle? Edit edit edit: OK I stand corrected on this one!

The props are as good as the acting!
If you want to watch a good car flick then watch Ronin!

Agreed; Ronin is a far superior movie. And it has a good car chase, with a much more plausible get-away car: E34 M5.

The Transporter is a good laff.  It's not for taking too seriously.

I didn't like the bit where the E38 got blown up.

When I watched it the first time on DVD I couldn't understand why a "735" did not sound like it should like a V8.  Then watching the film with Jason Stratham commentating over it, you are told that the car was a special 750, i.e. a V12 which is why it sounds nowt like a V8.  Supposedly it was special as they had to request a manual 750 from BMW.

The Transporter 2 was on Film 4 on Friday so I watched it and was disappointed to see that the 7 series had been replaced with a, in the words of Top Gear "cock" car, an Audi A8 although it was a W12 engine though.

It's a 406.

......ETA, the M5 is being driven by a 'girl', ( ducks for cover ).

At least there is the very beautiful Shu Qi to look at through most of the film!

Ronin is one one my all time favourite movies, with two of my all time favourite cars, the e34 M5 and the Audi S8.

I havent seen the transporter but isnt it supposed to be a manual 735i??

There is a proper button to open the e38 boot, at least there is on the 740iL.

Ronin is a fantastic film - one of my top 10.

Love the old W116 450SEL with the 6.9l engine in it -
that car can shift for an old bus!

I lusted after a 450SEL 6.9 as a twelve year old! They were a very rare sight in my native Denmark but I remember seeing a brand new, dark blue, one on German plates in western Jutland while on holiday, bliss!

I never said the car-chase in Ronin was plausible, only that the M5 is a more plausible get-away car than an E38.

My mind is at rest too

In some scenes though the M5 turned into a 525 or 535 or something like that. Brilliant car chase though. Best to leave your brains at the door for the transporter !

Russian addition to this list

crime/comedy BUMER E38 750 car is just part of the gangsta movie. brilliant!

crime/comedy BUMER2 E53 X5 Just nice, but not too much action with car.

crime/comedy SHMURKI E34 (Some say it is Pulp Fiction without fancy clothes)    Car is in bad condition, but way they drive it is just so typical in Russia.

Edited : I have to watch "Ronin" - seems like I missed something good...
