E46 DME/EWS fault?

   Hi i have a 2001 320iA and occasionally it refuses to start and just cranks over.
I read the DME with Carsoft and the fault is ''EWS Binary message not valid''
There are no faults in the EWS but if the DME and EWS are synced with Carsoft the car just starts perfect and will run for a week untill the problem comes back and the same code appears?
