Working for Network Rail myself on lot of new build railway projects, I can relate to the issues, especially letting a company called Carillion do the work

If you know the industry you will know what I mean

Bloody hillarious,

I'm not in favour of Edinburgh either. Having to travel into the City and out every day is a nightmare!! Even my sat nav has given up trying to work out where I am and where I want to go

These clowns hide in the public sector, if they were any good they would be in the private sector on big bucks.

Yes I am a capitalist and proud of it - 100%

We have the WPR fiasco still to come in Aberdeen, that will be twice the quoted price and finish up 5 years later than planned.  And even after all that it will not solve the traffic problems it was build to fix in the first place, becuase it will be built in the path of least resistance.

Good times!

Daz

Now here is a surprise ..............    NOT!!!

Tram bill could escalate to £750m

£250 Million over-budget and the trams may not start running until 2013, two years later than expected

Do you think they experienced these problems building the Basilica in Vatican city, the Egyptian pyramids or the Eiffel tower even?

Progress is a wonderful thing.

Yeah, because it comes to Edinburgh and ends up in Leith

I live just off Leith Walk the list of businesses going out of business because of the tram project is ever increasing, small unique shops going to the wall, never to return.

The extra 20+ minutes each working day of my life wasted by traffic delays directly attributable to the trams is time I’ll never get back.

The unjustified increase in the bus fares so that the tram fare will match bus fares when they do come on line is money I’ll never get back.

The lies and deceit the people of Edinburgh have been fed about the tram project since it started is mind blowing.

The sheer incompetence of the tram project planning is breathtaking, some parts of Leith Walk dug up and re-laid no fewer than 6 times, so far, and not a single piece of track in sight.

Edinburgh Council are continually trying to rip the character out of Leith.  The Council resents the fact the historic Port (more historic in many ways than the city) has never wanted to be part of their city since the good folk of Leith rejected the amalgamation in a referendum in 1929.

Don’t get me started!

My pal's missus works for TIE, apparently the biggest problem and the thing causing the major headaches is Siemens, CAF and Bilfinger Berger bid for the contract in GBP, then won it in 2008, at a time when the Euro was sitting at 1.26 to the Pound.

They won the contract with the best bid, never dreaming that there would come a time when the GBP would plummet to 1.09, so their costs have gone up by almost 20% and they are going to TIE saying they need more money.

TIE are standing their ground, their attitude being you contracted at that price, you complete the work, but unfortuantely if the Germans pull out the cost (which is already going to be well over budget) would be astronomical, and no amount of threats of suing for incompleted work is going to get the tracks laid!

So whilst it's a total b*llox up, the council and TIE are screwed, damned if they do and damned if they dont. There was even a suggestion by Shirley Anne Somerville that it would be cheaper if the whole project be scrapped, the streets re-laid and the whole unholy mess be forgotten!

That would be the most sensible thing, if it is the cheapest option.  Especially if as Jack says the bus fares are going up to match the tram fares.
