thanks. could you recommend anyone in dublin / wicklow area who might look at it or would I be better going up north and trying to save a few euro getting work done.

If I did buy the part online would a specialist fit it or would they expect to source it too?

Thanks

AC Cars just of the SCR is a site sponsor and well regarded.  Also Beemerchris is a well regarded spannerman and a frequent contributor.

Not sure about the fitting/sourcing question, you'd have to talk with them directly.  My specialist (John Roche in Gort, so a bit out of your way!) has no problem with me sourcing a few bits that I can find at useful prices, etc. but I do it selectively (he has to make a living too, so fair is fair).  For example, he retro fitted a cruise control/mfsw for me on the 328i just recently.  I sourced the new wheel from an NI dealer.

Blaze

Sounds like it could be a final stage resistor problem.  They are common enough.  It might need a dealer or specialist to confirm.  Can't really say if its a diy job.  I suspect not as there is a good bit of dash and trim to remove to get at it.

Not a disaster in cost terms though.  See link below to a recognized BMW specialist in the UK.

Hi,

I have a 2001 Petrol X5 (Automatic). 2 Weeks ago the heater and blower stopped working. All the lights and controls work but no air comes out the vents hot or cold.

Needless to say its freezing so I do need to get it fixed. I've been Googling and just worried given the nature of the issue it could be expensive.

I've come across posts related to the "Final Stage Resistor" but to be honest have no idea.

I'd really welcome any input.

Thanks
