HI! NEW TO THIS GREAT SITE, FIREFIGHTER AT PORT GLASGOW WHITE WATCH 31.5 years ,EX MECHANIC AND CAR ANORAK, 2 QUESTIONS RE. MY E30 325I, FIRSTLY CAN I PLUG N PLAY ECU 0261 200 173 ECU TO REPLACE OLD MOTRONIC 0261 200 073 WHICH IN MOTRONIC 1.1 GIVES LOTS OF TROUBLE, NEXT CAN I FIT A LATER, 1989 RADIATOR WITHOUT FITTING A NEW WATER PUMP AS MY RAD HAS BOTH TOP N BOTTOM HOSE CONNECTIONS ON LEFT AND MY NEW ONE HAS TOP HOSE ON LEFT AND BOTTOM ON RIGHT IE DIAGONALLY OPPOSITE ANY DIGRAM RE ROUTING OF HOSES GREATLY APPRECIATED. Could also PM with details..

Hi there.

I'm pretty certain that you won't be able to do just the ECU swap.  You can do a full Motronic swap, by swapping cylinder head,  inlet and exhaust manifolds, fuel rail, injectors and engine loom, ECU etc.  It's considered by many to be a worthwhile modifcation, you get the higher compression early engine with the later, smoother, more reliable injection system.

The ETK lists different radiators pre and pst facelift.

hi! i, turned off the caps lock! my apologies, my car is the early" high compressision",1987, 9.7 to 1 model, l just wondered if there was a plug n play 35 pin connector ecu, which gave less trouble with its hybrid switch for ignition amplifier, than the original motronic 1.0, no. 0261 200 073, i believe ecu 081 which was around the same time as my cars fitment, was plug n play, but was it less troublesome, re its internals? best regards tommy. ps great site.
