Foolishly or otherwise I've decided to try to reactivate the air con in my 1988 hiline ready for the summer heatwave.

I have found a great air con guy and  a receiver drier but the condenser and maybe the compressor need replacing has anyone any wisdom to share apart from lying down in a dark room until the idea subsides.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

On a car that age I am not suprised that those bits you have mentioned need replacing.

Aircon is great but on an old car it can cost more than the car is worth to get fixed i.e. my old Vauxhall Senator so I didn't get it done.

Can you even still get those bits?

You need to way up the costs of the repair work against what you will get out of it.

I think your foolishness is limited to thinking that this summer will have a heatwave.

Cost £300 + VAT in 2006 to update the aircon to the latest air con gas, which is needed now as its not allowed to use the old type. Probably double that now - and the parts will be available.
