Always buy the best car that you can - and that is not always the most costly. Early 635s are usually quite rotten, but do not always show it. Inner and outer wings and rear arches are often the major problem. With wings at £600+ and inners almost unobtainable, the costs can be horrific. Buy a museum item that has not been run for years and is in original condition - it will cost around £19K +. Even that will probably need a new fuel tank and brake lines -  or get one that has been restored by a reputable restorer. Let some other idiot spend his cash.
I paid £24K for my M6 when it had 18K miles on the clock - even that needed a new fuel tank, as they get rust inside if left empty for a year or two. Luckily my tank, fuel pump and fuel lines were all replaced under the car warranty.
It will be for sale shortly with offers over £30K - but not until I have had a few more drives in it. Copy and paste this:

Hi and welcome to the forum.

If you use the search function on here you will find lots about the old 6's. Rust worm being the main concern (inner wings etc.)

If you shop around you might be able to find a nice 'Highline'

Good luck.

Hello.
Looking for some buying advice for the early 635, something like this would do nicely.

http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C166984/

Bearing in mind that I'm not mechanically minded and will probably get someone to inspect whatever car I go for....
What should I be looking out for?
Ballpark figure to rectify the problems mentioned?
What is the "test lamp panel" and how much to fix it?

Thanks
Dan
