Hi Guys, am new to this so take that into account please. Can I fit 205/40ZR17 tyres to my 97 325 tds in place of the 215/45/ZR17s fitted now. Thanks in advance and stay lucky!

You will be altering the rolling radii of the wheels which may upset the electrical items that take a signal from the wheel sensors.  For example traction control, ABS, speedo, cruise and if it is an auto the autobox may throw its toys out the pram.

If that was an approved BMW rim tyre size combo from new then you should have no issues.

Be exclusive and drive a Petrol 5 Series!

This may not be so bad.  The chances are that the original tyre size on the TDS was 205/60/15.  Assuming this is so, then the change in rolling radius from the original size is only around 5mm, or about 0.27%.
Now: BMW 523i SE '00, 318i SE - e91 '07, 325i Coupe '93.

e46 328i SE Touring, 330Ci, 318Ci.
e39 523i SE.
e36 325i Coupe *2, 323i SE, 316iSE.
e30 325iSE 2dr, 320i Conv, 320i 2dr, 316i.

as long as you change ALL of the tyres it won't upset the electronics. But it may upset your insurance for running the "wrong" tyre.

205/40/17 is a very flat tyre, expect a loss in driving comfort and stay away from pot holes.

My wifes E46 compact runs on 205/50/17 from factory
