Having researched on here first it appears that provided your car has regular oil changes plus filters there is no need to clean/replace the TOFP unless new Turbo is being fitted. Can the more technical minded please offer their comments on this. thanks in anticipation

How much is the part? Is it an easy diy job?
You are correct the regular oil changes should have prevented sludge building up in the that oil feed pipe thus lowering the risk of turbo failure. It is the turbo bearings that wear due to oil starvation (pipe blocked prevents oil getting to the bearings) and cause the turbo to spin outwith its intended axis where turbo blades can foul the casing and break off sending shards into the inlet manifold to get eaten by the engine. Not good. As a turbo failure can write off the engine and thus the car, anything you can do to prevent this would be no bad thing. If it were my car I would replace the oil feed pipe purely for piece of mind. The other thing to watch with that engine would be the swirl flaps in the inlet manifold. They would pose a bigger risk of damaging the engine than turbo failure esp as you have said the car has been subject to regular oil changes which should lower the risk of turbo failure. |
