Hi guy's just wondered if anyone could help diagnose my car's problem before i go and spend to much money on to many parts
noticed during the week that my car's cooling fan wobbled same as on this video for an M5: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3n7BnhchH0g ive no over heating issues or water loss when i wobble the fan by hand there is no movement from the 32mm nut that holds the fan in place, just the fan wobbles & i can stop the fan fairly easy by hand when the car is running.. is it posable that these signs are from a worn viscous/clutch (bearing) and all i need to replace at the moment is the viscous/clutch.
many thanks |

Looks like it mate, I know a mate just replaced the viscous fan coupling on his M3, was only about £70. All good now.

Yip your viscous coupling has failed. You should not be able to stop it rotating by hand when the engine is turning.

Good job it had failed otherwise you'd be looking in the engine bay for your fingers
Try a rolled up newspaper next time!

Yeah getting the tool makes this job so much easier, I really struggled to remove my viscous fan on my E39, bought the tool online and like you said, took 5 mins to then do the job!
