You don't need a diagnostic cable/tool/check to tell if you have a coolant leak. You get a wet patch under the car.

Assuming you are the original poster...
Did you do any of the things suggested in the posts above?

OP get your codes read, as the waterpump and 'stats will, iirc, throw up fault codes if they're faulty on N53 and N52 engines.

You might be lucky and have a failed thermostat (failed shut). BMW engines should run with the temp gauge needle slap bang in the middle of the dial i.e. at 'half' temperature.
Did the car run hot before you attempted a 'fix' at the leak?
What was JB weld? Is it a form of gunk that goes in the system and finds the leak and plugs it? You might find it has choked up the system and is causing the overheating.
Although you really shouldn't drive the car if the engine is overheating, BMW blocks and heads don't like being overheated.
Have a read of the second page of this thread. Tells you how I swaped out the 'stat, stat housing, waterpump and flushed out the cooling system in my E39 which will not be a million miles away from the system in your car.

I recently had a coolant leak that I did a quick repair job using JB weld. The leak has stopped, but the car still runs hot, but not to the point of overheating. After driving around the block a few times, the temp seems to stop at around the 3/4 mark. I'm guessing it's either the thermostat or the radiator itself. I'm not a mechanic, but I am trying to fix this myself without spending too much at an auto repair shop. How can I know what the problem is? My car is BMW 325i 2007 .How about the tool named Autocom cdp pro cars |
