Topic: Fit E39 alloys to E34. Posted: 13-January-2004 at 17:53 |
Ive just bought a set of 18" AC Schnitzer alloys for my E34 5-series,they are second hand. They do not have any spigot rings in the middle of them so they are not a good fit on the hub of my car. Ive been told that the wheels are made for an E39 so the hub size in the wheel is 74.1mm an the hub size on my E34 is 72.6mm so i need some spigot rings to bring the hub size of the wheel down to the correct size for my car. Can anyone help ? |

Any tyre and wheel specialist will be able to supply you with these. They should not be too exspensive as i believe they are made of plastic. Sorry i can't be of more help.

HI THERE, MY NAME IS ROGER KILLEN AND I HAVE SIMILAR WHEEL PROBLEMS WITH MY BM. CAN I SUGGEST THAT IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO GET SPIGOT RINGS FOR YOUR CAR THAT YOU DO WHAT I DID TO STOP SHUDDERING AND TO GET THE WHEELS PERFECTLY CENTRE I COULD NOT GET RINGS FOR MY RIMS SO I TOOK EACH WHEEL OFF AND DUE TO ONLY 2-3MM OF DIFFERENCE IN NEW WHEELS ROLLED INSULATING TAPE AROUND THE HUB RING AND KEPT CHECKING UNTIL THE RIM WAS A TIGHT FIT ON THE HUB. I THEN PUT THE STUDS IN AND TIGHTENED . I HAVE HAD NO FURTHER TROUBLE WITH SHUDDERING AND MY WHEELS ARE NOW PERFECTLY CENTRED.YOU MAY NEED TO REPEAT THE PROCESS EVERY TIME YOU REMOVE THE WHEEL( PUNCTURE ETC) AS THE TAPE MAY DISTORT. IT IS ONLY USED AS A GUIDE TO HELP YOU ACHIEVE HUB CENTRES. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF THIS IS OF USE ROGER Edited by ROGER KILLEN |

Roger, Thanks for the advice i might try it if i cant get any rings. Ive contacted the person i bought the alloys from and he says he should be getting some spigot rings at the weekend so if he does ill pass his name on to you and you might be able to get some from him aswell. I tried all of the big alloy wheel shops and the best advice i got was to sell my alloys and buy a brand new set from them as the rings arent avaliable seperately |

I started in the same manner as I have e39 rims on my e32. I however got the inspiration whilst downing a can of Budweiser!!! then set about cutting them into 10mm strips and taping three winds around the centre hub. It was perfect.
BUT, The correct answer is to go to Euro Car Parts and buy a "wheel fitting kit" complete with 20 new silver bolts for £13.00 |

Yip it is on their web page too if that helps the spigots take the e32/4 from 72.6mm to 74.1mm silly plastic things but the new bolts are always useful.
