The plug on the end of the phone cable on my E38 2001 728i has broken. Does anyone know where I can get a new one other than BMW who want hundreds of pounds for it as they say it comes as part of the cable which is part of a larger item. The phone is a V30 motorola - not the most up to date phone, but it works fine for me as I bon't need a smart phone.

I have an earlier phone, but I would imagine the plug is the same and a standard RJ11. If so, you can buy these loose plus a crimping tool for a few pounds on ebay. Cut off your old plug, remove the outer insulation only (not from the wires themslves), insert into plug and crimp.

Unfortunately this plug does not fit the phone. The V30 / V50 phone has a plug about 17mm wide with lots of pins. The one you mention is a standard modem or phone jack plug like I have to plug my router into the phone jack at home.
But you have given me an idea - I have a spare charger with a good plug, so I will see if the cable has the correct number of wires and connections. If it has, it may be possible to transfer it over. |
