If everything goes well, I could become the owner of an evo sport in the not too distant future, I understand from the present owner that the middle section of the exhaust might need replacing, as much as I would like to keep the car as standard as possible I thought that there would be advantages to go with an after market stainless system. Increased performance might be one reason, and obviously life of the system compared to standard one, I don't want to go for a real loud system, but one with a nice growl? would be nice, the only name that I've heard mentioned  is miltek, is this the one that I should look at or are there others on the market that are worth a look.

Your thoughts please and any contacts and prices would be much appreciated.

Not sure about Evo sport but Ive just had one fitted to mine late spec e30 and it makes it sound much nicer than the pipe I had (Scorpian) and compared to the standard pipe was about half the price.

Give Bexleys a ring as they will give 10% if you are a BMWCC member and the service is great

Steve,
I put a Milltek on my Sport Evo when I had it. I would highly recommend it.
However, you need to know this. The manifolds on the Sport are of a higher diameter than the 2.3 cars. The Milltek exhaust's internal diameter will not fit perfectly with the manifold's internal diameter unless you do something about it. Bexleys put weld around the outside surface of the exhaust where it would meet the manifold. They then bored out the inside of the exhaust to make its internal diameter match the manifold better.
The result seemed fine to me.
By the way, don't fork out on an original exhaust. They are very expensive and because they have cats they sap power. What's the point in that? The Milltek has the major advantage of having nice small straight tailpipes that look pretty stock......NOT Max Power.

EVO3 has got metal cats. No or minimal loss in power.
E61 520d, slow and buzzy but my wallet likes the mpg.....

John,

This would be a reason to not use the Miltek. The factory engineered the Sport Evo with the bigger exhaust for a good reason: getting the gasses out faster and easier... It will effect power, don't know how much though.

Alternatives are rare: I only know of the KK Motorsport which is 60 mm and costs EUR 1600 from the header down... http://www.e30shop.de/index1.htm

I have heard it's pretty loud too! ;-)

Regards,

Adwo

I don't think so. Myself and Andy O'Hara have had great results fitting Milltek exhausts to Motec'd Sport Evos. The differences I am talking about are minimal and the solution we found is fine probably. It is also cheap. How much is that exhaust you are talking about?? That's a thousand quid!!
Come on people.....the Milltek is sufficient for anyone.

I agree, when i need a replacement for my evo3 i will be getting a miltek no question!

I remember being down at powerstation for some work on my subaru, and they were power testing an m3 with the miltek and there were lots of praise about it then, this was about a year ago

Here's the link for Powerstation who supply the Milltek:
http://www.powerstation.org.uk/
Bexleys can also get one for you.
They cost less than 500 quid.....as little as 450 I think.

Go for a Miltek..
They are not very loud at all.. just a little more that Standard..
I gained 8bhp from putting on a Miltek, this was probably due to the removal of my cat.
Bexleys did a fantastic job for me.

Steve good to hear you might have got one, eventually.

I wiuld go with what John W has said and go for a Miltek. I have one on mine and it is a wee bit more throaty than the standard and although I have not dyno'd mine it felt that bit more reponsive.

The Miltek fitted straight onto mine with no bother.

I read a Sport Evo buyers guide article a few months ago which had an interview with Munich Legends giving their usual advice.

They also said they were working on a Sport Evo exhaust system, give them a try.

Alternatively call Hayward & Scott, they make great systems and may have made one for a Sport.

I have a Hayward & Scott DTM style one, I dont know how it compares to standard though, as it was on there from the previous owner.  The H&S are big in te scooby world, so must be good!
