Having problems with overheating when in traffic.

Checked all necessary parts i.e. water, thermostat, hoses, rad.  Could it be the viscous fan?

If so can anyone tell me how the viscous fan works?

to see if it is the fan clutch as you think then get yourself a newspaper and fold it up. With the engine running carefully see if you can stop the fan turning. If you can - its knackered!

I am not having any overheating problems.  However, I can stop my fan with very little force, when the engine is warmed up.  (Not tested it cold).  So, I assume my Viscous clutch is knacked.  But, if I'm not having an overheat problem...I've no need to worry..no?

Again I assume, the fan should be well clutched and nigh unstoppable when the engine is warm, so it can "fan", but cold it should be stoppable with a newspaper?
