I have just bought a '94 740i (engine changed by BMW) and the yellow light indicating that the shift is in park does not go off when the car is stopped.  Is this normal and if not can anyone offer any advice to correct the problem.

I take it you mean the light near the park position on the gear selection frame.

This is perfectly normal - it seems to stay on ages------- , anything upto 1/2 an hour

But it does eventually go off.

Thanks for the advice.  I have checked it again and you are quite right - it does eventually go off!
