E30 steering rack

   What are the symptoms of a worn steering rack on a 1989 E30 325i? Is there any scope for adjustment or is it a case of having to replace it?

Any help would be much appreciated!

	Hi, It depends on what part of the rack is worn. No adjustment is not possible. Symptoms can vary from a slight knock going over bumps to unstable steering and tyre wear. Play in either the steering wheel or road wheels may also be eivident, although the former may be caused by a worn steering universal joint. Thats the joint on the shaft from the wheel to the reck. Wear in racks is easily diagnosed with the car in the air. HTH Alan.
