Hi All
This is my first post on this board and I would be grateful for any help.
The problem is with my 730 V8 [1993] and has been getting progressively worse over the last 2 weeks.
[The car has stalled once or twice in the last few months and at times the engine has shuddered - which I suppose was a sign that something was starting to fail]
However, 2 weeks ago the car stalled as I was moving off at a traffic light. The car would not restart.
The car now runs when first tried in the mornings - but runs for just a couple of miles before the problem returns and it cuts out again. Getting out and bouncing the car up and down at the back gets it to start and run for a few hundred metres - if I am lucky.
I got it checked by the AA who said it could be the fuel pump [everything else he checked was normal apparently.)
I took out the fuel pump and checked it with a battery and it ran OK
[but I have been told that this does not necessary mean that it is working perfectly - could it still be overheating?].
I changed the fuel filter and that did nothing.
I have been told to check the fuel pump relay and change that - the problem is that I do not know how to locate this!
If this is the problem does anyone have an idea as to how I can locate this [my local shops do not sell Haines manuals for 7 series].
Someone else said that it was usually the fuel pump that goes on these cars.
Could this be a faulty fuel pump - or a fuel pump relay?
Is there any other possibility and what can I do to get this car mobile again?
Your advice and tips will be welcome
Ahmed
