2000 540i Sport (e39) Rear: 255 x 40 x 17 zr Front: 235 x 45 x 17 zr Currently have "Dunlop SP Sport 200 e" tyres all-round but the rear set are ready for changing. Can anyone recommend a decent hard wearing "all-year round" tyre ? Cheers! |

The 2000e is one of the longest wearing 'named brand' tyres you're going to get. Stick with it if you're happy with it. If not, then your options are limited to Continental SportContact II and the Dunlop SP8000 - which have similar wear ratings but better dry weather performance. Other, less well known, brands such as Hankook, Nankang and Pneumant make harder tyres, but you will then lose grip. Try http://www.mytyres.co.uk/start.html for lots of options, and there is even a tyre review link for most tyres (reifentest.com) - the lower the score the better. |

New rear tyres required on my 2001 520i and after much research and deliberation I've decided to go with Goodyear Eagle F1s because a) they were highly rated in the March issue of Which magazine in a group test, b) won some Auto Express tyre award in 2003 and c) were recommended by a number of people on another BMW forum. Finally d) for my tyre size (225/55 R16 W) they only cost around a tenner more per tyre than the Dunlop SP 2000s! Can't say fairer than that! |

Phil let us know haow you find the F1's. I'm puttin 255/40/17's Dunlop SP9000 and 235/45/17 on the front's SP9000 also. Great Aqua thread, and I need it in this country, it was a toss of a coin decided on the dunlops over F1's so let us know. Not putting them on untill I'm down to the first ply |
