when sat at idle and i touch the clutch pedal, there is a loud noise from ? engine ?clutch (as you can tell i'm mechanically minded!?!?!?) and when you take your foot off the clutch the noise goes quiet again.

anyone help with this? do i need more visits to the garage?

thank in advance.

thrust bearing is a little case that holds bearings which push against the clutch springs when you put your foot on the clutch (simplified).

The bearings get dry and wear out which is why they make a noise .

To replace it  you have to seperate the gearbox from the engine and slide it off the splined shaft . its basicly the same as replacing a clutch !!

tbh if its gna go to a garage to be done , you might aswell replace the clutch at the same time as the extra labour costs will be negligable

the clutch assembly and thrust bearing on my 5 series cost me £200 supply.d and fitted next day (not genuine bmw parts)
